Two poems

Daley Rangi

Brick & Mortar

our tūpuna said

language is a window to the soul

what use is a window

when we’re evicted

and the blinds are closed?

our tūpuna said

when one house dies, a second lives

we must rebuild our house

with bigger windows

and no blinds.

Space / Race

one stands in awe of a thin blue line

the other flies from it in dread

one holds his head high up in the stars

the other makes dying earth their bed

both are dreaming of better days

both are waltzing on the margins

one has the power to help the other

but helps himself                    to the universe                  instead.

Daley Rangi is an antidisciplinary artist generating unpredictable works and words. A proud advocate for bodily integrity and neurodiversity, they evade categorisation and invade the status quo; speaking truth to power and reorienting hierarchies. Through eclectic and autodidactic research and practice, they share rousing stories which take many forms. Daley is inspired by ancestry and fuelled by injustice.
